Abstract
The kinetic properties of TiFe0.94Al0.06 were investigated and compared with those of TiFe. The dependence of the hydrogen absorption rate on the driving force and the reacted fraction F showed that the chemisorption of hydrogen molecules on the sample surface is rate controlling up to F ≈ 0.15 with an apparent activation energy of about 1.7 kcal (mol H2)-1. At a later stage of the reaction the rate-controlling step changes from chemisorption to hydrogen diffusion through the hydride phase.
