Abstract
A distribution power flow algorithm for unbalanced distribution systems considering integration of distributed generation, thyristor-controlled phase shifting transformer, and an explicit representation of the dispersed loads through the branches has been implemented by exploiting a modified Newton Raphson method using the threephase current injection method. The proposed methodology has been applied to a feasibility study on a feeder pair fed by two different transformers located at different substations which is the most complicated normally closed-loop arrangement found in distribution systems. Several operation conditions for two distribution feeders served by two different substations have been simulated using this method with the goal to obtain satisfactory voltage and current profiles from the results of the three-phase power flow calculation. A test of the sample system has shown the fast convergence characteristics and the feasibility of the method. The application of the developed algorithm will further be extended in order to investigate the power quality studies of three-phase unbalanced distribution systems.
