Abstract
Lasing action, in two-dimensional photonic crystal ring lasers, was demonstrated. Ring-type resonators were defined by two-dimensional photonic crystal on a free standing slab with InGaAsP active layers emitting at 1.55 μm. The fabricated structures were pulse-pumped by a 980-nm laser diode at room temperature. Propagation loss was found to be less than 60 cm-1, using the reasonable value of group index of waveguide.
