Abstract

The investigation of a single defect cavity formed in a free-standing square lattice photonic crystal slab was presented. The 3-D finite-difference time-domain method was used to calculate the cavity modes and quality factors of a free-standing square lattice photonic crystal slab single defect. Electron-beam lithography, dry etching and undercut wet etching with HCl solution were used to fabricate the photonic crystal slabs. Four lobes wchich corresponds to the quadrupole mode profile were shown by the mode images observed.
