Abstract
A channel code assignment scheme that efficiently protects multiple compressed video signals against transmission errors over CDMA systems is presented. First, each video signal is encoded into the base and enhanced bitstreams according to the data importance. Then, these bitstreams are protected against transmission errors with the rate-compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code. Better protection demands more multi-codes in spreading, which leads to severer multiple access interference (MAI). We set up a framework for the joint design of channel coding and spreading by using the channel status feedback, and provide a solution to the trade-off between the channel coding rate and the assigned number of multi-codes to achieve efficient transmission. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed channel code assignment scheme.
